How to identify a hydraulic hose before replacement

Record the hose, machine position, markings, length, fittings, and orientation before the old assembly leaves the machine.

Record these before removing the old hose

  • Machine: equipment type, brand, exact model, and serial range when available.
  • Position: system, component-to-component route, OEM figure, and callout or pipe number.
  • Length: value, unit, and the exact points used for the measurement.
  • Hose: every readable layline marking, inside diameter or dash size, construction, and pressure rating.
  • Both ends: male or female, swivel or fixed, thread diameter and pitch, seal face, angle, and shape.
  • Orientation: clocking between bent fittings, hose route, clamps, sleeves, and guards.
  • Photos: one wide route photo, one photo at each port, and one photo of all readable markings.

A fast workshop method

  1. Find the machine record

Search by machine and model, then open the correct system. Match the installation diagram before relying on a part number.

  2. Tag both ends

Mark the machine-side port and component-side port. This prevents two similar hoses from being swapped.

  3. Copy the layline

Write down the complete printed line. Do not treat a construction name such as 1SN as a complete compatibility decision.

  4. Measure and photograph

Record the measurement method and fitting clocking. A number without reference points is easy to misread later.

  5. Match the whole assembly

Confirm pressure, temperature, media, hose family, compatible fittings, and approved crimp data as one system.
